Jane Gates has won Tesco Magazine's Mum of the Year Award for setting up the Sebastian Action Trust in memory of her son. There was a ground breaking ceremony at the site for the new building on what would have been Sebastian's 16th birthday, February 18th.

Winkfield St Mary's School has received a glowing Ofsted report.

Terry Hemming from Warfield Riding for the Disabled has become the London and the South East's RDA volunteer of the year.

A work by Binfield artist Julian Gordon Mitchell has been selected to be entered for a competition and is being exhibited in London.

All the four senior Bracknell Rugby Football teams won their matches on October 10th.

Dennis Wildman, from Harmans Water, has been invested as a member of the Order of St John for his services to the St John's Ambulance.  In the Bracknell division there are 61 volunteers including 21 youth members.

The Staff College Residents Against Madness (SCRAM) are celebrating as a bid to build 390 extra homes at 'The Parks' has been turned down.

Broadmoor Hospital, one of only three high security hospitals in England, is to receive a further 100 registered nurses for its 260 patients. The hospital is planned to be rebuilt in a multi-million pound scheme.

Hugo, a tabby cat, saved the life of Andy Williams, his neighbour in Birch Hill, when he woke him in his burning house.

Shopmobility in Bracknell Town has won the Tom Hillier Award for being the best in the country.  It now has 200 members .

Uplands Primary School in Sandhurst has again been hailed as an outstanding Grade One school following its Ofsted Inspection.

The Pampered Chef, based in Eastern Road, has raised £550,481 for Cancer Research UK.

The police-led Operation Ladybird has resulted in significant falls in crime in the Borough, in some areas as much as 90%.

Jessica Marengo, Chris Wilson, Andrew Hight, Stephen Clark, Andrew Helman, Paul Bearwood and Debbie Lowe of Bracknell Air Cadets have all been awarded top commendations for their work supporting local youth.

The Government Office has praised the work of Operation Lion Club which has reduced reports of anti-social behaviour in the Borough by 15%.

TV presenter Matt Baker presents an award to Bracknell and Wokingham College Student Ayla Bray from Priestwood.

Bracknell resident, Michael Weeding, a senior officer at Customs and International at HM Revenue and Customs in London, received an MBE in the New Year's Honours List.

Six A level students from The Licensed Victuallers' School, Ascot, gained their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards by climbing Snowdon.  The assessor from Snowdonia Country Park said, 'This is the best group we have seen in recent times . . .very well-prepared.'

Having done well in the GCSE exams, Easthampstead Park Community School is the most improved school in the Borough.

The Borough's Key Stage One results are above the national average.

Good luck to the Sandhurst Town Fizzers who have had five straight wins on the run-up to the League.

Andrew Hart, 26, from Trevelyan,' one of Britain's most gifted swimmers in learning disability sport,' is training hard hoping to take part in the 2012 Paralympics.

Mari Jones, 15, of the Bowmen of Warfield has broken the Junior Ladies Barebow National record at the Crowthorne Nationals.

Students from the gardening club at Ranelagh School have won a silver medal for a their display at the Chelsea Flower Show.  Students from Owlsmoor Primary School's gardening club are to have a garden at Hampton Court Flower Show

MF 2009  golf winners

Easthampstead Ladies Golf Club, who play at the Downshire Golf Complex in Bracknell, won the The Mary Forster Trophy for the second year running.  The competition is open countrywide to all clubs in the NAPGC (National Assn of Public Golf Clubs).  Maureen Barnaville, Barbara Hudson-Reed and Sharon Stephens were this year's team.

We can be truly proud of Wally Harris, 87, from Crown Wood who has been granted the Freedom of the City of London in recognition of his bravery in World War II.  His nine medals include the Military Medal for Gallantry and stars for service in France, Germany, Italy and Africa.  He will receive the award at the Guildhall on March 24th.

Rosi Sexton

Rosi Sexton of Crowthorne is the world's number one in women's Mixed Martial Arts.  She is also a first class graduate from Cambridge, has a PhD from Manchester and is training to be an osteopath.

Jane and Carl of Warfield, both qualified masseurs, are offering 50 x one hour massages for a £10 donation to Home-Start Bracknell Forest, a local charity that supports young families.  They hope to raise £1000.   01344 451781

The Forestry Commission is planting 10,000 trees in Crowthorne.

The Daruchini Curry House in Binfield has won an international cuisine award.

Go Ape donated £1000 to 1st Easthampstead Scouts.

Because of the many youngsters who have joined recently, the St John's Ambulance has started a new Bracknell Forest Cadets group.

The CAB (Bracknell Citizens Advice Bureau) presented 20 years service awards to Ethel Hayes and John Harman and 10 years service awards to Madeline Diver, John Fordham, Irma Thomas and Susan Wheeler.

Andrew Moores, 47, of Binfield, has donated a kidney to his brother.

Bracknell Blazers Baseball Club won the National Baseball Championships in August.

A record number of wild orchids have been found on the Borough's grass verges.

Wildmoor Heath (formerly Broadmoor) Primary School have been raising funds in memory of Rio Hamblin, 11, who died earlier this year.

Bracknell and Wokingham College National Diploma in Travel and Tourism raised £886 for Child Bereavement Charity.

DebRA,  based in Crowthorne, is a charity that looks after people with a serious skin disease.  They hope to have 120 charity shops over the UK by the end of the year.
